Thoughts from our Elder Elder PDF Print E-mail

Here is the link to Paul's sermon from Sunday.

We were able to pull away for a few days last week and go down to Myrtle Beach with the Leadership of the church (Thanks GCF!).  While there, we got to meet some new friends from other churches around the country, sit through a few teachings, and have some really good discussion times afterward. OK, there were also a few dinners out and walking on the beach and such but mostly we were focused on hearing from God!

In one of the sessions the speaker mentioned the Apostle Paul and his efforts to persuade some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers during a meeting of the Areopagus on Mars Hill in Athens, Greece that there was one true God. It seems that Paul approached this conversation differently than he did in most other cities in which he visited. This was clearly a different crowd from those to which he usually spoke. It also seems that there was a different result in this city than most of the other cities he visited.

Have you ever heard of the KISS method? KISS stands for Keep It Simple Stupid! I have a tendency to make things complicated sometimes. Perhaps I could have avoided some difficult times in my life if I had used the KISS method more often. I think you will find that Paul might have benefited from a little simplicity on Mars Hill.

We’ll talk about this today and discuss how it affects us here in Garner as we have opportunity to share about Christ. Sharing effectively about Christ is probably much simpler than we make it. See what you think.

Blessings,

Paul (The elder, not the Apostle)
