Sermon from Aug 23 now on-line PDF Print E-mail

John carrys on with the idea of what making us authenic Christians.  Here is the link.

Authenticity simply means we are the real thing, genuine, full of integrity.  One of the temptations people have is to compare themselves to other people, especially when it comes to our behavior.  It sounds like this, “well I know I don’t measure up to the way that Mary lives, but I am surely not as bad as Robert.”

The problem with this thinking is revealed in a portion of Jesus’ sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5.  He addresses this very problem when He states that we are being measured by a different standard than comparing ourselves to our neighbors.  The standard is God’s perfection, and none of us can live up to it.  That’s a scary thought, and if that was the end of the story, there would be no hope for any of us.  But this morning, I intend to talk about this comparison we do and then give us the rest of the story!
