What does it mean to be an authentic Christian?  We started out this discussion several weeks ago highlighting 14 statements that relate to “behaviors” of the Christian life through our guest speaker, Chris Vengala.  Since that time, we have been breaking down the statements one at a time.  Last week, our discussion focused around authentic Christians being those who don’t compare themselves with others to see where they stand with God.  Prior to that, we discussed the necessity for not just reading the scriptures, but doing what they say.

This morning, we will be taking a look at a very sensitive area to the Christian life, how we handle the resources God has given us, specifically, our finances.  Jesus has some specific things to say about trusting God with our provision, and properly handling our possessions.  Unfortunately in the day we live in, many Christians have lost this perspective and pretty much live in a similar pattern to the way the world and culture around them lives.  My desire this morning is to bring us to a scriptural awareness of handling our possessions in a way that pleases God.

Jesus said that a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of his possessions.  He used the word, “abundance” for a specific reason.  He was making the point that although we do need certain possessions, pursuing an abundance of possessions for the sake of building treasures here on earth is not only dangerous, it’s downright destructive to the purposes of God.  This is a tender subject that leads us to a discussion of whose resources are in our lives to begin with.   So get ready for some healthy biblical discussion as we tackle a subject that hits close to home!

Kingdom Blessings, Pastor John
