Revelation & Rest Part 2 PDF Print E-mail

After the last two weeks sermons being lost due to technical difficulties, we are back and here is the link to the sermon.

Last week, we took a close look at an intriguing portion of scripture, where Jesus is addressing us as believers in need in the context of the burdens of life. (Matthew 11:28-30)   He says to:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Last week, we highlighted the revelation part of this passage, that if we will come to Him, we will see things.  Specifically, we focused on God unwrapping truths about who He is, who we are, and how He wants to work in our lives.  I challenged you to take time this week to ask God to unwrap pieces of insight into Himself so we could discover more of who He is.

This morning I want to build on that foundation by talking about the rest portion of this statement.  If we take His yoke upon us, we will find rest for our souls.  Initially, this is difficult to understand, but the essence of what Jesus wants us to get is the strength we gain from being tied closely to Him.  When we strive or put forth our strength as the foundation for a relationship with God, we will be disappointed, but as we learn to allow Him to pull us around life, our perspective begins to change.  Let’s dive a bit deeper on that thought as we learn more about serving Christ through being yoked to Him!

Kingdom Blessings, Pastor John
